THE IFIELD GOLF CLUB SCANDAL 1 - "A MOST UNGODLY CAN OF WORMS IS OPENING UP..."
Watch this space - cos no other space appears to be exposing this scandal. Why ?
I didn't know so many worms had forked tongues - so not yet in a position to expose this scandal.

Well, it appears the little scam has been scuppered - for the time being at least - by Ifield Golf Club's shareholders. They have voted AGAINST the deal with Taylor Woodrow (now, Taylor-Wimpey).
This means the stack of cards - so neatly and secretly constructed by developers and 'partners' - will come crashing down around their feet.
Don't expect any sympathy from me - they lied and cheated - so they have nobody else to blame but themselves. They were trying to 'fast-track' something through - buck the democratic system - so that it would be too late for any opposition to do anything about it.
Who are 'they' (aka partners, stakeholders) ?

Oh what a tangled web we weave, when we first practise to deceive....

WEST SUSSEX COUNTY COUNCIL.
Their 2001 Structure Plan gave the 'green light' to build 2500 houses on (unspecified) "Land W & NW of Crawley" (aka The Parish of Ifield - with a 1000 year history) - commissioning some back-street consultant to describing the area as "lacking in heritage and character".
Thus, the Ifield Society was born to counter-act that nonsense.
HORSHAM DISTRICT COUNCIL was given the job to specify where to build within "Land W & NW of Crawley" (Ifield Parish). Stupidly, they chose the Ifield Golf Club - and the planned to re-locate it north (again on Ifield Parish). Stupidly again, they failed to consult the Golf Club anout these plans (except possibly the directors & shareholders - not the members and players).
Massive protests all round - it wasn't going to work smoothly. So they (WSCC & HDC) sought the help of CRAWLEY BOROUGH COUNCIL (CBC) - to be a rather reluctant, but important 'partner' - and thus the Joint Area Action Plan (JAAP) was born.
The trouble is the whole process is DEVELOPER-LED GLOBALLY (probably orchestrated by the US-led World Bank/IMF/WTO and/or their 'Agents') - thus creating a democratic mess...and this is the result.
Essentially, I am putting a (democratic) spanner in the (undemocratic) works.
I won't be popular, but popularity is not my concern - I just don't like being lied to, or being taken for a complete fool.
For God's sake, someone has to tell the truth in the face of this Corporate lie, Government cover-up, and Media silence.
As Orwell said : "In an age of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act".

GEORGE ORWELL'S "STATEMENT ON 'NINETEEN EIGHTY FOUR' " - JUNE 1949
A blogger friend, for whom I have the greatest respect, has had difficulty finding George Orwell's "Statement On 'Nineteen Eighty-Four'" (June 1949) on the Internet.
This does not surprise me at all - not because of my respected friend's internet search limitations, but because I'm sure it's not there - for reasons which can be analysed later...
I have a photocopy of the original 'Statement' in front of me now - having made a personal visit last year to The Orwell Archive (UCL London), because I also had difficulty in finding it - for reasons which can be analysed later...
Instead of sending a photocopy only to my learned friend, I have decided to quote it in full here on this Blog - for my benefit, his benefit, and - hopefully - for others too :

"STATEMENT ON 'NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR'"
"It has been suggested by some of the reviewers of NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR that it is the author's view that this, or something like this, is what will happen inside the next forty years in the Western world. This is not correct. I think that, allowing for the book being after all a parody, something like NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR could happen ('could' is underlined - Ed). This is the direction in which the world is going at the present time, and the trend lies deep in the political, social and economic foundations of the contemporary world situation.
"Specifically, the danger lies in the structure imposed on Socialist and on Liberal capitalist communities, by the necessity to prepare for total war with the U.S.S.R. and the new weapons, of which - of course - the atom bomb is the most powerful, and the most publicized.

(Also, as I understand it, these last words - "Don't let it happen. It depends on you" - are the last published words of George Orwell. He died 7 months later, aged 46 - Ed)
(The 'Statement' continues, but is no longer written by Orwell. It is completed, I assume, by his editor, Victor Gollancz - correction, Fredric Warburg - Ed)
"George Orwell assumes that if such societies as he describes in NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR come into being, there will be several super states. This is fully dealt with in the relevant chapters of Nineteen Eighty-Four. (Chapter IX - 'The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism by Emmanuel Goldstein' - Ed)
It is also discussed from a different angle by James Burnham in THE MANAGERIAL REVOLUTION. These super states will naturally be in opposition to each other, or (a novel point) will pretend to be much more in opposition than in fact they are. Two of the principal super states will obviously be the Anglo-American world and Eurasia.
If these two great blocs line up as mortal enemies, it is obvious that the Anglo-Americans will not take the name of their opponents, and will not dramatise themselves on the scene of history as Communists (or Socialists - Ed).
Thus they will have to find a new name for themselves. The name suggested in NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR is of course Ingsoc (English Socialism - Ed), but in practice a wide range of choices is open. In the U.S.A. the phrase "Americanism" or "hundred per cent Americanism" is suitable, and the qualifying adjective is as totalitarian as anyone could wish.
"If there is a failure of nerve, and the Labour party breaks down in its attempt to deal with the hard problems with which it will be faced, tougher types than the present Labour leaders will inevitably take over, drawn probably from the ranks of the Left, but not sharing the Liberal aspirations of those now in power.
Members of the present British government, from Mr. Attlee and Sir Stafford Cripps down to Aneurin Bevan, will never willingly ('never' is underlined - Ed) sell the pass to the enemy; and in general, the older men nurtured in a Liberal tradition are safe. But the younger generation is suspect, and the seeds of totalitarian thought are probably widespread among them.
It is invidious to mention names, but everyone could - without difficulty - think for himself of prominent English and American personalities whom the cap would fit."

LOCAL ELECTIONS - 11 DAYS TO GO
Everybody is 'sleep-walking' to May 3 - that's how it seems to me, anyhow - with just 11 days to go.
Crawley News hasn't covered it at all yet. Crawley Observer had something a few weeks ago - but nothing this week. Argus has given it a little mention. West Sussex County Times is the only paper which seems to be taking it at all seriously - and starving BNP of the 'oxygen of publicity'.
So, at this rate, Horsham should have a good voter turn-out - but as to Crawley....apathy rules O....(zzzzz).
It seems to be like the 'phoney war' here in Ifield and Crawley - calm before a storm perhaps ? Calm before a sleep more like - at the moment.
I have to say I'm not very excited about it either - as an Independent candidate - and it makes me wonder what difference an election makes to really change anything. Those with what I call real power will continue to do exactly what they want to do anyway - unless something happens, especially in the next 11 days, which will cause people to wake up, wise up and grow up - and then vote.
But at this rate, low turn out is guaranteed - which will play into the hands of the likes of the BNP, especially in Ifield. There is a growing number of racist, and ignorant, people around here - and it is because 70% of the community can't even be bothered to get off their TV arse, that racists like the BNP Party see their chance. Just watch the property prices of those 70% plummet, if BNP gain a seat...
Voting for the BNP is rather like voting for the local 'hoodie' gang to carry out community policing...
We are such stupid and ignorant people sometimes...and often don't realise it until it's too late.
There are times like this when I feel that compulsory voting should become law - like paying car insurance. If you own a car, you pay insurance. If you are a citizen, you vote.
In India, I understand, voting is seen as a community responsibility - and the voting procedure reflects that...The voting population make their choice by pressing an electronic button all about the same time...so the result is known almost immediately.
Why can't they do that in this country ? Why indeed...

PATRIOTISM, NATIONALISM, GEORGE ORWELL AND HOWARD ZINN
In October 1945, George Orwell made a clear distinction between Nationalism and Patriotism ("Notes on Nationalism", Polemic).
In April 2007, Howard Zinn also makes this distinction clear (The Amy Goodman Chomsky-Zinn Interview) :
"The Government is set up by the people in order to fulfil certain responsibilities : equality, life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness.
"And according to the (American) Declaration of Independence, when the Government violates those responsibilities, then, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish the government.
"In other words, the Government is not holy. The Government is not to be obeyed when the Government is wrong...what's holy is human life and human freedom, and the right of people to resist authority.
"So today, for instance, the highest act of PATRIOTISM, I suggest, would be opposing the war in Iraq, and calling for a withdrawal of troops from Iraq, simply because everything about the war violates the fundamental principles of equality, life, liberty, pursuit of happiness; not just for Americans, but for people in other parts of the world."

THE IFIELD WEST 'GOLF CLUB' HOUSING SCANDAL
If it is confirmed that, 'behind closed doors', particular Ifield Golf Club directors have 'sold out' to a giant transnational corporation of building developers, then the ancient Parish of Ifield - with its 1000-year history - will be lost forever under concrete and tarmac.
We appear to be witnessing the PRIVATISATION of House Planning around Ifield West - including Ifield Golf Club - not just the privatisation of Council Housing in the area.
Public bodies such as West Sussex County Council, Horsham District Council and Crawley Borough Council - bankrolled by the taxpayer - are surrendering control to private, global corporations.
We appear to be witnessing a well-oiled, but undemocratic, planning machine which can 'bulldoze' anything in its way - a system of control designed only to serve the predatory instincts of private interests, and to break the spirit of any serious public opposition to its plans - especially from the Ifield Society (and Others).
This is a scandalous democratic obscenity - so it's time to put a wholly legitimate 'spanner in the works'.
We, the independently-minded in Ifield Green and Ifield West demand that our Councils' (who are supposed to be representing us) wrestle back public control as a matter of urgency, and keep private corporations under strict control - in the interests of the people to whom they serve.

"ARGUABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT INTELLECTUAL ALIVE TODAY" NOT WANTED
If a student "Social Awareness Group" within Crawley College invited "arguably the most important intellectual alive today" to speak, and that person accepted, would you have a problem with that ?

(a) ORWELLIAN "ELECTIONSPEAK" (Doublespeak + Newspeak + Doublethink) - to be exposed and outlawed in politics, and in politicians who want to bury our heads in the sand. As George Orwell himself said in "Politics and the English Language" (1946) : "In our time political speech and writing are largely the defence of the indefensible...designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind".
An "Electionspeak Dictionary" would include words such as Consultation, Reform, Care and Trust.
(b) TAKE THE PARTY OUT OF PARTY-POLITICS, AND REPLACE IT WITH PEOPLE - PEOPLE WHO REPRESENT THE COMMUNITY, NOT A PARTY. We are all 'political' in one way or another, but few of us are party-political. 6500 people in Ifield are political (100%), but only 2000 are party-political (30%), so 4,500 are not party-political (70%). Everyone is political, but not everyone is party-political. George Orwell put it bluntly : "In our age there is no such thing as 'keeping out of politics'. All issues are political isssues...". For example, the papers we read are political statements; our schools and hospitals are political issues of education and health - whether we like it or not, or whether we know it or not.
(c) TAKE THE PARTY-POLITICS OUT OF BUSINESS, AND REPLACE IT WITH INTEGRITY - Old 20th century party-politics has no place in the 21st century. Look to the future (eg Crawley - Gatwick's City of Diamonds - of which Ifield is the hidden gem).......Global Is Local - Local Is Global (eg Mortgage Interest Rates and Oil)

TAKE ACTION - BE INDEPENDENT - VOTE
- To those 4500 people in Ifield who don't vote - WAKE UP. WISE UP, AND GROW UP. Political parties - and party-politicians - rely on your apathy and indifference - especially the BNP.
- Get the 70% who don't like party-politics to vote.
- It's not about what I can do for you - independently. It's about what we can do together - independently as a community.
- If you want the BNP to represent you, don't vote (If you don't want the BNP to represent you, vote)
- If you don't vote, you're as bad as the BNP, if not worse - both insult those who have sacrificed much to win the democratic right to vote, and to protect our hard-fought freedoms.
- if you don't vote, you might not be racist - but you are useless to your community.
- if you don't vote, this means that you are 100% satisfied with what's going on around you - or 100% indifferent to what's going on around you.
- 4500 out of 6500 don't vote in Ifield (70% Don't Vote - 30% Vote)

APRIL 1 2007 - 33 DAYS TO GO
April Fool's Day is soon to end- and it's been a good day - no joke !
We went to Littlehampton (+ dog) and played on the beach. It's amazing how much fun you can have together - just with a simple ball !
Had something to eat - and then went to Swanbourne Lake by Arundel Castle to walk off lunch - and then took a rowing-boat out on the lake. It was good to feel so much 'at one with nature' - amongst the ducks, the swans, and the birds. We 'modern' humans have simply 'lost the plot' somehow when it comes to being part of the natural world.
Returned home refreshed - with elections furthermost from my mind...
