HOW TO BE DISHONEST - ESPECIALLY AT ELECTION-TIME

If you want to be dishonest, defend the indefensible, and corrupt thought - use, abuse and misuse language in the following 7 ways :

1. "Use a metaphor, simile or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print" :

toe the line, no axe to grind, grist to the mill, Achilles' heel, ride roughshod over, playing into the hands of, leave no stone unturned, leaves much to be desired, with respect to, the fact that, in view of, on the hypothesis that, friendly fire, pacification, war on terror, international community, fascist, stalinist...

2. "Use a long word where a short one will do" :

expedite, ameliorate, in my opinion it is a not unjustifiable assumption that ( I think) ...

3. "If it is possible to cut a word out", don't cut it out.

4. "Use the passive (eg one) where you can use the active (eg you)".

5. "Use a foreign phrase, a scientific word or a jargon word (or euphemism- Ed), if you can think of an everyday English equivalent".

weltanschauung, myosotis flower (forget-me-not), negative impact (missed), friendly fire, regime change (invasion), liberation (occupation) , policy of targeted defence (assassination), policy of pinpoint prevention (contract killing), facilitating payments (bribes), Ordnance (Bombs), plausible deniability, public diplomacy (propaganda), stabilisation force, less lethal weapons...

6. "Say anything outright barbarous, than break any of these rules"

7. Lie - using "the vocabulary of lies" and a "doublespeak dictionary"

Check out this link, Richard, will you?

Powergen

Can't access it, Jose - what's it about ?

Yes, I see you can't because I can't either. It's something to do with the purchase by E.ON of your British Power Company Powergen, E.ON as you know is a German-based corporation, but whose purchase was made by an American subsidiary with the same name.

With time I'll send you the full article via e-mail.

Thanks, looks interesting - and disturbing.

SEC Approves PowerGen Sale (LG&E)

posted: 10/1/2002
SEC approves E.ON acquisition of Powergen www.eon-ag.com Today at a public meeting, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved E.ON’s acquisition of UK company, Powergen, subject to a reporting requirements. It is expected that formal orders detailing this approval and satisfying the final regulatory requirement for the takeover process will be published shortly, and that the deal will be closed by early July. This acquisition will make E.ON the world’s largest investor-owned energy service provider. The company will have operations in 19 countries and approximately 30 million electricity and gas customers. E.ON’s annual electricity sales will be over 340 billion kilowatt-hours. Through Powergen’s US subsidiary LG&E Energy, E.ON gets access to the world’s largest energy market. The legal requirements for the acquisition of LG&E Energy will have been fulfilled by registering under the US Public Utility Holding Company Act (PUHCA). This provides the basis for the planned further expansion in the US market. At the meeting the SEC did not impose any unexpected conditions on its approval. The divestment of all non-energy activities in the medium term is entirely in line with E.ON’s strategy of focussing on its core energy business. E.ON CEO Ulrich Hartmann commented: “We are just about to close the biggest acquisition in our Group’s history. This step represents significant progress in our strategy to become a global leader in energy services. By entering the attractive US market we will have tremendous growth opportunities which we will pursue vigorously.” Powergen Chairman Ed Wallis said: “For the Powergen Group and its employees, joining E.ON gives us excellent prospects for the future.“ The members of the E.ON Management Board and the directors of E.ON UK PLC accept responsibility for the information contained in this document relating to the E.ON group. To the best of the knowledge and belief of the members of the E.ON Management Board and the directors of E.ON UK PLC (who have taken all reasonable care to ensure that such is the case), the information contained in this document for which they accept responsibility is in accordance with the facts and does not omit anything likely to affect the import of such information. The directors of Powergen PLC accept responsibility for the information contained in this document, except for the information relating to the E.ON group. To the best of the knowledge and belief of the directors of Powergen PLC (who have taken all reasonable care to ensure that such is the case), the information contained in this document for which they accept responsibility is in accordance with the facts and does not omit anything likely to affect the import of such information.

My question is why it had to be an American corp who made the purchase and not mother E.ON in Germany?

And my answer is: mother E.ON may not have had a popular welcome in Britain.

Which shows the world is full of deception, Richard.

It needs more, many more, honest people like you.

Let's look at this more closely :

As you know, corporate trans-national giants simply change their name if they get a 'bad name' with their original name...

Examples are too numerous to mention...

Was E.ON called something else before, Jose ?

If your thinking is correct - US E.ON is hiding behind its German subsidiary - it will behove us all to ensure this deception is exposed.

But, we need to be very sure of our facts before proceeding...

If our argument is 'watertight' - that is, a major deception is taking place - then Associated Press is one of our first 'ports of call' - info(at)ap.org

As you can see, Richard, this is not easy to check, what I can see crystal clear is that governments are pawns of those corporations. You see Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, already has warned she will act in defence of E.ON if the Spanish government defended the ENEL's Public Purchase Offer.

Why isn't the law the protagonist if there is anything iffy?

As the US and the UK governments have defended the oilers' interests in Iraq and are defending them with Iran.

As to changes in names, I see the US E.ON owns and controls Louisville Gas & Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company. It won't be long until it's all under the E.ON's name.
