PUBLIC OWNERSHIP IS UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT - PRIVATE OWNERSHIP

Public Ownership is under new management - Private Ownership - and the private sector will become 'slum landlords' (as in the past), who are simply predators who rob for profit.

The last remaining bastions of Public Ownership - Health (NHS), Housing (Council Housing) and Education - are planned for 'Reform' (ie Private Ownership).

As George Orwell said - his last published words just before his death in 1950, aged 46 :

"DON'T LET IT HAPPEN. IT DEPENDS ON YOU"

"The private sector (PFI-Ed) will pocket at least £23 billion of NHS money (taxpayers' money - Ed) in profits and interest over 30 years" ('NHS profits private sector', Argus, Jan 20/21 2007)

"The largest bank in the world, based on assets, is Swiss-based UBS, which has an estimated £777 billion in its coffers" ('did you know', Argus, Jan 20/21 2007)

"Complaints about 'rip-off' bank overdraft charges have hit record levels" ('Beat The Bank', Argus Front Page et al, Jan 20/21 2007)

The 'master plan' of these global, financial 'master puppeteers' is clear, for those with eyes to see :

Public Ownership (The Public Sector-Governments-Taxpayers) must come under new management - Private Ownership (The Private Sector - Banks - The Global Private Financial System)

"DON'T LET IT HAPPEN. IT DEPENDS ON YOU"

Comments:
Let it happen. Let it all happen. Let capitalism reach its final conclusion. Only then will people see. Only vast inequality will lead to the necessary radicalism....

Privatisations is the way found by rogue politicians to deflect attacks on their behaviour. Ineptitude in managing public matters disguised by this new trend in ALL political parties, without exception.

A real flaw of our so-called democracies. Public services being treated like private enterprises. If privatisation makes public services work, what prevents our leaders from doing likewise?

Orwell was talking about the message of '1984'. Was that about privatisation? I can't remember

As I see it, Orwell was way ahead of all of us when he wrote '1984' in the late 40's - he died soon after, in 1950, aged 46.

To Orwell, in my view, 'privatisation' was just an early technique to secure control and gain power for 'Big Brother'.

But in the early 40's, he wrote this about 'privatisation' (19 Feb 1941) :

"I began this book to the tune of German bombs, and I begin this second chapter in the added racket of the barrage. The yellow gun- flashes are lighting the sky, the splinters are rattling on the house-tops, and London Bridge is falling down, falling down.

"Anyone able to read a map knows that we are in deadly danger. I do not mean that we are beaten. Almost certainly the outcome DEPENDS ON OUR OWN WILL. But at this moment we are in the soup, full fathom five, and we have been brought there by follies which we are still committing, and which will drown us altogether if we do not mend our ways quickly.

"WHAT THIS WAR HAS DEMONSTRATED IS THAT PRIVATE CAPITALISM - that is, an economic system in which land, factories, mines and transport are owned privately and operated solely for profit - DOES NOT WORK. IT CANNOT DELIVER THE GOODS..."

("The Lion and the Unicorn : Socialism and the English Genius. Part 2 - Shopkeepers At War")
(Source : 'Orwell and Politics', Penguin Classics 2001 - Page 104)

And then, in the same essay, Orwell gives a cracking critique of the defining differences between Socialism, Fascism ad Communism...and it is relevant today as it was in 1941 - more so, in my view.

Sorry, missed the most important out...

Socialism, Fascism, Communism...and Capitalism.

Umm, is that the closest you get to a 'No', Richard?

You sound like a politician.

Well, I blame the 'blogging' company I keep.

Seriously though, Orwell's had many 'messages' to tell us when he wrote Nineteen Eighty-Four - not just one.

It is up to us to apply Orwell's warnings to the threats we face now - and the threat of privatisation is something humanity must face and overcome.

If we do not overcome it, we will be destroyed by it.

Privatisation is bleeding our NHS dry - perhaps it has already done so.

Sorry, but pulling a bit out of 'The Lion and the Unicorn' and applying Orwell's quote about '1984' to it is a bit flash.

He could equally have been talking about the banal lefties he describes in 'Keep the Aspidistra Flying' or 'Road to Wigan Pier'.

I'm not saying that I like the privatisation trend in this country, but the reasons to oppose it should be a little more...

erm...

substantial.

Yeah Danivon, thinking about it, maybe you're right (damnit)...I was 'stretching' Orwell's last quote too much.

Even so, methinks it's not unworthwhile to speculate Orwell's opinion as to how his '1984' nightmare developed...such as whether privatisation was part of the path to total power...

There are very powerful people who are pulling some very powerful strings at the moment - and those strings, and those people, appear very 'private' to me.

To under-estimate this 'privatisation' agenda is dangerous, in my view.

We ignore it at our peril.
