A 'war' has now broken out between "The Ifield Society" (eg Richard W. Symonds - one of the most handsome and best-dressed person in the civilised world) and "Ifield Golf Club Ltd" (eg Brothers Richard and Stephen Coppen - two of the most...).

Richard W. Symonds DOES NOT want the ancient Parish of Ifield to be buried under concrete and tarmac (including Ifield Golf Club) - he is not alone.

The "photographer" (Argus 6/11/06), who has been newly-elected as a West Sussex County Council Deputy Lieutenant (DL) , is none other than Charles March - the future Duke of Richmond - who lives at Goodwood House.

He will join other County Hall DL's (appointed, not elected) - which include the Duke of Norfolk, Lord Egremont, Lord Luce, Lord Young of Graffham, Viscount Cowdray, and other West Sussex landowning aristocrats.

Who really controls West Sussex and its County Council in this so-called local and regional democracy ?

Look no further than the Lord Lieutenant and his Deputy Lieutenant's - the office of which is at Chichester's County Hall - and financed by whom ?

Who else but us, the taxpayer ! And we paid for the Queen's visit to Crawley last week - organised through the Lord Lieutenant's office !

Is it democratic ? Of course not. It is a democratic absurdity and obscenity.

I love my country and my county - the Queen represents both; so, I will wave my flag like the rest.

But, I do not love my country's State Government (represented by Blair's 'LabourCon' Party), or my county's State Local Government (represented by West Sussex County Council and its Lord Lieutenant's Office); so I will not be waving my flag to them.

I am patriotic, but not nationalistic. There is a chasm of difference.

I love Sussex. I do not love "West Sussex", which is simply an administrative boundary created by bureaucrats, separating it from "East Sussex".

I was born and raised in Sussex (Worthing), and live in Sussex (Ifield/Crawley).

Long may this be so - and as the olde Sussex saying goes : "We will not be druv".
